View solution in original post. You have to reformat to install Win 7 64bit. I would rethink that. I'm all for a reformat and clean install of win 7, but you should not consider the 64 bit version until you know your processor is 64 bit capable and all your hardware can handle it--especially external devices like printers. You cannot upgrade to 64bit over the 32bit vista. That requires a reformat-clean install.

Media Direct does not work on Win 7. That's a win xp program. Best to run the Upgrade Advisor first to find out what will and will not work and what might need to be uninstalled. Also find the instructions for installing win 7 using the upgrade disk for a clean install. The instructions are the same as if you were upgrading from XP. Do not remove Vista or reformat before you boot to the installation disk.

You will be able to keep the hidden partitions. A custom install will allow you to delete the c partition and recreate it. Windows does not do this automatically, so follow the directions carefully.
